Att Prepaid Cell Phones

Over the past couple of years, the formerly known as Cingular, At&t offered to the audience a collection of mid and low end mobile telephones on prepaid plan basis. up till now ATT prepaid section has the most attractive collection of cell phones.

I, myself, have purchased a couple of the att prepaid mobile telephones over the past 18 months and I have to admit that i found the service to be rather good and consistent except for some minor unsatisfactory issues.

as a matter of fact, att also offers  refurbished cell phones at a great bargain which is very suitable for the short term visits and tourists.

Another interesting thing is that you can unlock your phone after you've stayed with att for six months and use it with the network of your choice with no cancellation fee's no hassle no struggling if you don't like the service.

The benefits of the prepaid phones/ SIM cards from my point of view:

  • You don't have to pay for the pricey data plans when your needs are limited.
  • You can get the Prepaid packages at a fairly cheap prices, starting $10.
  • You can unlock the phone after a while and then you can even use it with a different network.
  • You wont be in favor to sign a 2-year contract when you are only staying in the states for several days or weeks.
  • you can always grab one from the shelves and use it immediately.

The cons of the prepaid Phones/ SIM:

  • If you are using too many minutes, you'll end up paying more than what you would normally pay for a contract.
  • No smart phones are are available on a prepaid phone package, even the old cheap ones.
  • You can't buy the I-Phone with a prepaid line.
  • The support for the prepaid lines aren't as good as the support for the contract ones.

A link to the att prepaid cell phones webpage from the AT&T website can be found here; and if you are going to buy one, i really recommend that you get the Sony Ericsson's W350a, it's a great phone, looks cool, comes with a 1.3MP camera and have a decent battery life, you can grab that for about $4o.

also link to air time or accessory packages along with the prepaid phones can be found here.

What would be a shell shoking surprise for all the att customers is to release an iPhone prepaid package, but I supect they would do so :).
